Beijing 2022 was coming. COVID-19 restrictions were still in play. And we needed to build genuine public excitement for a Winter Olympics during the height of the New Zealand summer.

We built a 2m³ block of ice and embedded 32 individual prizes inside it. The game was simple: guess when a specific ice cube would melt. The closest entry wins what’s inside. The installation became a genuine spectacle – people came back to check on it, photographed it, entered repeatedly, and the media couldn’t resist.
